Help and frequently asked questions

NexaAtlas brings together maps, places, history and source-backed information. Find practical instructions, explanations of public data and ways to contact us when something does not work as expected.

How to use NexaAtlas

How do I get started?

Open the map or Explore page, enter a place name and select a result. You can browse information about the place, its history and sources. There is nothing to install.

How do I find a place or object?

Enter a name such as Poznań, Kraków or a known object and submit the search. Results depend on selected country, category and available public data. If nothing appears, check the spelling and try the All filter.

What are the nine thematic filters?

The available filters are All, Mines, Mineral deposits, Mining areas, Heritage, Places, Administration, Industry and Transport. Each selection limits relevant results and supported map layers.

How do I switch map and search on a phone?

On narrow screens use Search and filters or Map to move between the results panel and the map. After checking place details you can return to the map without typing your search term again.

How can I open details about a place?

Select a result or a supported feature on the map. The panel shows a public description and available context. When a permanent detail address exists, copy it to share that same location with another person.

Are thematic routes driving directions?

No. The order of points on the Routes page is editorial, rather than calculated road navigation. Curated routes help explore connected themes. Open individual descriptions to inspect supporting sources.

Can I switch language and country?

The interactive map offers English and Polish plus a country selector. Coverage varies across countries. Switching the interface language does not automatically translate original source records.

What does the historical view mean?

When an object has documented earlier names or source validity periods, choose a year in the historical view. The date of a registry update is not necessarily the creation date of a real-world object.

Why is a place or layer missing?

The individual datasets differ in coverage and publication rights. Clear the thematic filter, check country selection and try an alternative spelling. A missing result is not evidence that a place does not exist.

What is the difference between fact and inference?

Source facts point to specific supporting material. Inference or reconstruction requires separate justification. Spatial proximity alone does not demonstrate a causal relationship between sites.

Where does the map information come from?

NexaAtlas documents data lineage, licences and publication limits. Some records include citations, source revisions and relations. The atlas does not replace official registers or professional advice.

Why are some coordinates generalized?

Sensitive sites and private finds can have intentionally generalized public geometry. This protects location data and is not a malfunction. Do not attempt to recover undisclosed precise coordinates.

Which countries and places can I explore?

The most detailed coverage is in Poland. Basic information about selected places is also available in Austria, Czechia, France, Germany and Slovakia. Coverage varies by country and source.

What if the map is slow or fails to load?

Check your connection, reload the page or switch views. If the problem returns, record the approximate time, page URL, selected layer and general map area. Share this information through the Contact page.

How do I report an incorrect description?

Provide a public place URL, relevant layer and the exact statement you believe is incorrect. Add a reliable correction source where possible. Reports are reviewed rather than automatically changing the data.

Where can I find the terms, privacy policy and contact details?

You can find links to the Terms, Privacy policy and Contact page in the footer. For privacy questions, licences or rights in published material, email us using the address on the Contact page.

Still need help?
